Taming Your Tongue - Dealing with Gossip

Whoever goes about slandering reveals secrets, but he who is trustworthy in spirit keeps a thing covered.(Proverbs 11:13)

Whoever covers an offense seeks love, but he who repeats a matter separates close friends. (Proverbs 17:9)

Whoever goes about slandering reveals secrets; therefore do not associate with a simple babbler. (lit. “one who is simple with his lips”) (Proverbs 20:19)

For lack of wood the fire goes out, and where there is no whisperer, quarreling ceases. (Proverbs 26:20)

Outside are the dogs and sorcerers and the sexually immoral and murderers and idolaters, and everyone who loves and practices falsehood. (Revelation 22:15)

Gossip is a destructive force that damages lives and can even take down a church. In our culture, gossip comes in the form of "fake news". Its purpose is to elicit an emotional response deep within that would cause you to think negatively about a person, vote in a particular way, join forces in standing against something.
