Every day we have the opportunity to use words that infuse life into people rather than death. Every day we have the chance to build people up by the way we talk, leaving them feeling bigger than life, encouraged and full of grace. We live in a world that finds freedom and pleasure in using corrupt, foolish, filthy and crude language, as though it has some value to those who hear. But it doesn't. Paul warns the believers at Ephesus who had a background in using this type of language that it is unfitting for a believer. He already challenged the believers to put off their old way of life, and put in their new life in Christ, to never give the devil an opportunity by the way they are acting or speaking, to not grieve the Holy Spirit, and to be imitators of God and walk in love. So shouldn't our words reinforce these things as well? Jesus declared in Matthew 12:36-37 that we will be held accountable for every word we speak. So choose wisely!
