What would it look like to live in a world where people only spoke in a way that built others up, that left people feeling alive, hopeful, valuable and significant after every conversation? What would our government look like if our leaders spoke more positively about each other? What about our marriage relationships? What if we intentionally spoke only "life words" to each other, and about each other, if this is even possible, even when faced with serious marital conflict? Remember when your mom told you to not talk with your mouth full because you may choke? Think about that for a minute! Maybe we should take her advice and not talk when our mouth is full of stuff we really want to say to someone!
Proverbs 18:21 is one of the most simple and understandable Scriptures as it relates to the way we talk. It says, "There is life and death in the power of the tongue. Those who live by it will each its fruit." Your tongue has the power to infuse life or bring death. It's your choice in deciding what type of words you want to use - but you will live with the fruit of it, either good or bad! So choose wisely!
