New Sermon Series: Taming Your Tongue

05/03/2020 - By Pastor Todd Nathan

We have all had times where we said something that was hurtful. And we also have had times where someone said something hurtful to us. The old adage, "Sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me" is not true. Whoever wrote that obviously is not on social media. Though we value freedom of speech in our country, God puts guardrails around our speech in Scripture. James says, "No human being can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison." (James 3:8) His letter to the 1st century believers is filled with examples of the misuse of the tongue (being quick to speak, being judgmental, giving false hope, failing to bridle our tongues, blessing God and then cursing another, giving worldly advice as though it was godly). Our culture today embraces freedom of speech but at what cost? Is it really ok to say whatever you want? Take some time to read James 3:1-11 and then watch the video.
