From Triumph to the Cross

04/05/2020 - By Pastor Todd Nathan

This Sunday is Palm Sunday, and marks the beginning of Passion Week, the most significant week in Christian history. Palm Sunday celebrates Jesus' triumphal entry into Jerusalem and the fulfillment of Zechariah 9:9 where the crowds shouted "Hosannah! Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosannah in the highest!" as they threw down their coats and palm branches in honor of their King. But it would only be a matter of 5 days later that many of the same people would be shouting "Crucify Him!!" What started as a picture of triumph gave way to defeat as Jesus' broken, bruised and battered body hung on the cross in humiliation. But was it truly defeat? Not defeat, but the very plan of God to reconcile sinful man to Himself through the perfect and all-sufficient sacrifice of Jesus on the cross, and His resurrection three days later from the grave - sin and death now defeated!
